Gallery Lumiere together with the development company MR Group organizes the exhibition “Life is like a movie”. It will run from June 9 to September 3, 2023.
The exhibition will include more than thirty works by foreign and Soviet authors devoted to the Art Deco style and aesthetics. Among them are Sheila Metzner, Harold Feinstein, Elliott Erwitt, and a series of shots by Soviet photographer Nikolai Drachinsky of business trips to the United States in the 1960s, which immortalized the flourishing of Art Deco architecture and the New York landscape. York.
Fashion photography will be presented as a separate block in the exhibition. For example, Horst P. Horst’s work “Mainbocher corset. Paris” (1939), which was loaned especially for the exhibition from a private collection.
There will also be portraits of actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood: Vivien Leigh, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. The project also included a series of reports by Steve Shapiro on the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy.
In addition, visitors will see rare vintage hand-printed photographs from the filming of Gone with the Wind (1939), The Great Dictator (1940) and Joker (1957).
This is the first integration of an association that will expand the presence of photographic art outside the Lumiere Gallery space: after the completion of the project, some of the exhibits will be placed in the lobby of the Paveletskaya City residential complex.
