The trailer for The Old Oak has been posted on the StudiocanalUK YouTube channel. It was directed by British director Ken Loach, best known for The Wind That Shakes the Heather, and myself, Daniel Blake. In the new film, the filmmaker, whose strongly social projects have twice received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, discusses life in the country pub The Old Oak and its owner TJ Ballantyne.
According to the plot, the businessman is facing financial difficulties. They only get worse when refugees from Syria are sent to their mining settlement. His arrival causes discontent among local residents. Ballantine, on the other hand, discovers interest and sympathy for the newcomers.
He meets a Syrian girl named Yara, who once dreamed of becoming a photographer. Communication from her turns into friendship. The filmmakers, including screenwriter Paul Laverty and producer Rebecca O’Brien, describe their project as “a deeply moving drama about fragility and hope.” Starring Dave Turner and Ebla Marie.
The Old Oak will be released in the UK and Ireland on September 29. The painting will be the definitive one in Loach’s career. In April, the 87-year-old director announced that he was leaving the cinema due to short-term memory and vision problems.
A new trailer for the second part of “Dune” featuring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet was released earlier. The premiere will take place on November 3, 2023. We talk about it in more detail here.
