The new workplace is funded by dictators and the State Department: what’s wrong with Sanna Marin leaving politics?

Former head of government Sanna Marin said goodbye to Finnish politics. Parliament approved her resignation as MP so that she could devote herself fully to her new position as strategic advisor at Tony Blair’s British International Institute for Global Change.

The plans of the former head of government, who once danced wildly at a party with alcohol and marijuana, became known last week. It was evident that Marín would not be interested in sitting on the parliamentary platform and discussing the initiatives of his political competitors. It was rumored that they would like to see her as a high-ranking official in the European Union, but this did not go any further. She had the opportunity to work in an international organization, and here she Marin did not disappoint with her choice: she became unexpected and scandalous.

The new workplace of the former head of the Cabinet of Ministers does not have a very good reputation. Firstly, it is also headed by a former prime minister, Tony Blair, who dragged Britain into the Iraq adventure and other US-led wars. For which he received in his homeland the unflattering nickname “Bush poodle.” The clients of his institute are mostly dictators or autocrats. The sources of financing, as we say, are “murky”, but this institution does not reject money from the United States Department of State. As a result, Blair became very rich and about a thousand of his employees are preparing some kind of global change in 35 countries. For a European politician, working in such a position is a sure way to ruin his reputation.

Finally, many believe that Marin behaved unethically when she left parliament: more than 35 thousand Finns voted for her in April this year, and the Social Democratic Party obtained a high result in the elections only thanks to her popularity. Furthermore, she cannot simply resign from her parliamentary mandate: according to the Finnish Constitution, the reason must be compelling (for example, resigning from a position that is important for society). Transferring her to a foreign non-profit organization had never before been considered such. According to Marín’s colleagues, voters who voted for her may feel disappointed and even deceived.

However, Marin herself doesn’t seem to care much about this. By changing Helsinki for London, she will receive a salary much higher than the income of a head of government or a deputy (about 14,800 and 7,500 euros per month, respectively). Furthermore, the Finn hopes that from now on the media will not interfere as actively in her private life as she did during her years as prime minister.

Earlier in the week, some loving companions decided to release Marin. Although, as gossip claims, many of them are secretly happy to have so successfully removed an ambitious competitor from Finland.
