The number of self-employed workers in Moscow exceeded 1.4 million people – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

“Since the beginning of this year, the number of professional income tax payers in the capital has increased by 183,000 people,” said the deputy mayor. “One in five Russian freelancers is registered in Moscow. Their total income since the beginning of 2019, when this tax regime was introduced in the capital, increased by 1 exceeded 781 billion rubles in August 2023. Including more of 186 billion rubles, the self-employed earned from January to July of this year.”

The most popular types of activities among the self-employed who indicated them during registration are passenger transportation, delivery, apartment rental, advertising and marketing, and construction.

“From January to July 2023, self-employed workers transferred almost 5.5 billion rubles to the Moscow budget, 38 percent more than in the same period last year, and during the entire period of this tax regime, the capital budget received more than 19 billion rubles in taxes on professional income,” said Moscow Government Minister, Head of the Department of Economic Policy and Urban Development, Maria Bagreeva.

He also added that in the seven months of 2023, freelancers wrote 52.5 million checks to clients, 24 percent more than the previous year. The average check size during the same period increased by 12 percent to 3,021 rubles.
