The president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, was against an amnesty this Monday and stressed that the businessmen are “with the unity of the country, with the unity of Spain” and with the Constitution of ’78.
After meeting with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and asked about some statements by the acting second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, pointing out that the amnesty for those accused of the process requires social, political and economic consensus, Garamendi has stressed that the businessmen opted for “moderation” and for working “within the constitutional order.”

“There is talk of an amnesty, do we agree? No,” Garamendi concluded, questioning whether an amnesty is within the Constitution. “I don’t think so,” stressed the leader of the employers’ association, who stressed that what they would like is for the big parties to sit down and reach agreements like the others do.
“We are not going to get into what partisan politics is. We are not going to get into the statements of one side or the other,” he added. Garamendi has framed the meeting with Feijóo within institutional normality and has indicated that the leader of the PP has conveyed his proposals to them.
Feijóo will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, with the general secretary of the UGT, Pepe Álvarez, and on Wednesday with the secretary general of the CCOO, Unai Sordo, within the framework of the round of contacts with companies and unions ahead of the investiture debate.
