The height of the cross is 12 meters and its weight is 1.5 tons. This compositional element is one of the few that survived the raging flames. Then, in April 2019, a fire caused part of Notre Dame’s roof and its spire to collapse.
The facility will reportedly open to believers and tourists later this year. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, said that this would happen on December 8. During the Olympic Games in July, the cathedral will be presented to the citizens practically without scaffolding.
An iconic landmark of France, visited by approximately 12 million people a year, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Several hundred craftsmen and architects are working on the restoration of the cathedral.
