The 55-year-old professor, former US Navy diver Joseph Dituri, known under the pseudonym “Doctor of the Deep Sea”, decided to conduct an experiment. He settled in the “Jules Underwater Residence” hotel, which is located underwater, at the bottom of the lagoon in Key Largo, Florida.
The operation was dubbed “Neptune 100”. The goal was 100 days underwater and to test how this pressure of the water column affects the human body.
The teacher worked at the hotel, gave lectures online, ate well, and did physical education.
During all this time, the instruments studied their condition. On day 93, doctors noted significant changes in Dituri’s body: cholesterol levels decreased by 72%, markers of inflammation decreased, and telomeres (DNA sequence) and chromosome tips increased by 20%. . The number of stem cells has increased 10 times. The deep sleep phase also increased by 60%. The results surprised the professor himself. He Said He Was 10 Years Younger!
However, his colleagues immediately began to doubt that it was underwater that created the miracle. In his opinion, in isolation, the scientist was simply less worried and leading a healthy lifestyle.
But a month later, Dituri admitted that not everything ended well. At first he complained that his height had decreased markedly, then he had to see an ophthalmologist due to sudden severe myopia. The scientist does not rule out that these negative consequences for his body are not the first with which he will have to deal.
In any case, Dituri set a world record: no one has lived so long under water.
