“We urge officials of the Republic of Belarus not to make mistakes that would be tragic for their own country,” the publication says (cited by RBC).
The diplomats called on Minsk to withdraw troops “to a distance that exceeds the range of existing fire systems in Belarus.”
Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that in the event of a third-party aggression against the republic, Russia would send its military units to the country.
“This is a common war between Belarus and Russia against these beasts,” Lukashenko said, stressing that the response to any aggression would be “swift and adequate.”
The head of the Second Department for CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, said that Russia takes seriously reports of the activation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the border with Belarus and is ready to respond to any provocations.
The Foreign Ministry representative also recalled that the military doctrine of the Union State assumes that Russia will qualify external aggression against Belarus as an invasion of the common territory of the Union.
It should be recalled that on August 9, about ten units of unmanned aerial vehicles were detected in the airspace of Belarus, arriving from the territory of Ukraine. All of them were destroyed.
In this regard, Lukashenko said that Minsk had informed Kiev that any provocation on the part of Ukraine would not go unchallenged. In addition, the Head of State noted that Ukraine has 120,000 military personnel stationed along the border with Belarus. “The border is mined like never before,” he stressed.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that the group of troops of the country’s Armed Forces intended to strengthen the border with Ukraine is already in place and is ready to respond to any provocation from kyiv.
