The EC-37B is intended to replace the aging EC-130 electronic warfare aircraft, which is scheduled for elimination. The conversion of a small private aircraft for military purposes was carried out by BAE Systems and L3Harris Technolgies.

Compared to previous aircraft of this type, the new aircraft will be able to reach twice the speed: more than 900 km/h, and the service ceiling will be more than 12 thousand meters. In addition, the aircraft received new equipment that will expand its capabilities.
As the head of the US Air Force Air Combat Command, General Mark Kelly, noted, “these types of aircraft were needed yesterday.” In his words, the last drops of resources were squeezed out of the EU-130.
He added that the EU-37 will provide cover for US ships and aircraft, allowing them to get closer to their targets.
