Greta Thunberg will face trial. A well-known environmental activist was accused of disobeying the authorities during a demonstration at the Malmö oil port. This is reported by the local edition Sydsvenskan.
A hearing in the Thunberg case will take place at the Malmö District Court on July 28. At the meeting they will assess whether the environmental activist was involved in blocking traffic during the action and whether she opposed the police instructions to clear the road. The protest took place on June 19. During it, Thunberg and members of the Fridays for Future movement called for more active action by authorities and private corporations in the fight against climate change.
The action of the eco-activists was called “Bring back the future”. To attract attention, its participants blocked the exit of the oil tankers to the port. “We decided not to be bystanders, but to obstruct the fossil fuel infrastructure,” Thunberg explained.
Police said the youths were allowed to stay in the port for a while and express their position. However, the activists then blocked the passage of more than 30 trucks, and law enforcement officers asked the protesters to leave the road onto the lawn. Four people refused to obey the instructions of the police and were forcibly removed from the road. Among these four, Thunberg was fair.
Let’s remember that at the beginning of the year, Greta was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the fourth time. The candidate was nominated by a member of the Norwegian parliament. We talk about it in more detail here.
