Filming on the fantasy film Beetlejuice 2 was almost complete when strikes began in Hollywood and production ceased. The film’s director, Tim Burton, spoke about it in an interview with Variety.
There was a day and a half left before principal photography was completed. According to Burton, the work was 99% done. The Beetlejuice sequel is currently scheduled for release on September 6, 2024. The plot of the film is being kept under wraps for now.
The script for the continuation of the cult story was written by Al Gough and Miles Millar, creators of the Wednesday series. The cast includes Winona Ryder, who played Lydia Deetz in the original Beetlejuice, as well as Tim Burton’s Wednesday series star Jenna Ortega.
In May 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike due to a conflict with the Motion Picture and Television Producers Alliance over payment for content creation for streaming services and the use of AI. In mid-July, the American actors union (SAG-AFTRA) joined the strike.
