Tiziano Vecellio’s painting “Rest on the Flight into Egypt” was sold at Christie’s for a record sum of $22.2 million for the artist’s work. The canvas was created in 1512, TASS writes about it.
The painting was auctioned for the first time in 150 years, as nothing was known about its whereabouts. The painting was stolen from Longleat Manor House in 1995. It was found in 2002 at a bus stop in London: the painting was in a normal plastic bag and without a frame.
The painting is known to have belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte, the Duke of Hamilton and the Queen Consort of Saxony, Maria Theresa of Austria. Titian was recognised as Venice’s greatest artist before he was 30. His famous works include “Venus of Urbino”, “Penitent Magdalene” and “Danae”.
Earlier, A-House announced the summer season A-Seasons, during which new projects of the club and residents were presented. For example, the space hosts a personal exhibition by Anna Lapshinova. We talked about it in more detail here.
