Walter Chiapponi steps down as creative director of Tod’s. He will step down in September this year after showing the women’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection, WWD reports, citing sources.
Chiapponi will present the brand’s latest collection in September during Milan Women’s Fashion Week. Tod’s declined to comment on the designer’s planned resignation. One of Walter’s main merits in his work is that he managed to return to the brand his main Gommino detail, increasing his size in the brand’s loafers, ballerinas and boots, as well as expanding the range of bags.
The designer joined Tod’s in October 2019 and became the creative director of the brand’s women’s and men’s line. His first collection was presented in the Fall-Winter 2020 season. Prior to Tod’s, Chiapponi worked for several years at Bottega Veneta with the brand’s former creative director, Thomas Mayer.
“Chiapponi has succeeded in designing understated yet sophisticated luxury clothing collections that reflect the high-end lifestyle and Italian craftsmanship that Tod’s represents,” writes WWD.
Chiara Ferragni recently became a board member of Tod’s Group. She will deal with youth support issues. We talk about it in more detail here.
