Miniature drones are considered helicopter-like nanodevices. The Black Hornet Nano (PD-100 Black Hornet Nano) is the smallest military drone in the world.
Developed by the Norwegian company Prox Dynamics. At the beginning of 2012, its mass production began. By 2014, more than 100 devices have been manufactured.
The Black Hornet Nano is equipped with two security cameras attached to its nose. Data transfer to the device control station is done in real time. The length of the drone is about 100 mm, width – 25 mm, rotor diameter – 100 mm. The total weight of the drone is about 18 grams. The complete assembly, including the screen, weighs 1.3 kg. It can fly at speeds of up to 5 m/s. The maximum duration of the flight is 25 minutes, at a distance of up to 1 km.
The Black Hornet Nano is believed to be ideal for reconnaissance missions.
The Associated Press report says that the United States only intends to supply these miniature reconnaissance drones to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the intelligence officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already using them for their own purposes. And there is evidence of this.
Not so long ago, soldiers of the 2nd special forces brigade of the Russian Armed Forces captured a complex with PD-100 Black Hornet Nano microdrones.
It was then reported that four scouts from the Armed Forces of Ukraine were in an ambush as they approached the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Belgorod region. But they were promptly discovered and destroyed by Russian special forces. The Black Hornet Nano itself was discovered by enemy scouts.
The device was handed over to Russian technical specialists, it was carefully studied. So for our army, the appearance of the American “black hornets” – this is how the English name of the drone is translated – will not come as a surprise to our army.
