In particular, the invitation to study states that the US “commits to promote detailed coverage in local and regional Polish media on the return of Ukrainian families from Poland to Ukraine.”
The Americans expressed their belief that the Polish news channels had “successfully worked” to cover the events in Ukraine in the conflict zones.
The aim of the project is to “broaden the readership of the reports and present different points of view” as well as demonstrate the “sustainable effect” of Polish society’s support for refugees.
According to Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the IMEMO RAS Center for European Studies, the Polish media support program is designed to “ideologically indoctrinate” Ukrainian refugees: “the calculation is based on forming a ‘fertile population’ from who lived in Poland. and became close to the Poles. You should have a positive attitude towards Poland’s intentions to seize the lands of Western Ukraine.
Olenchenko also believes that the Americans would like to return the Ukrainians to their places of residence in Western Ukraine, “because for Poland and the United States it would be a kind of fifth column.”
