It’s been 30 years since this famed Andalusian director made his last feature film, and only in the last few years has he returned to the public light with new work. Now, thanks to Canal Sur, the local public television station, it has been revealed that Erice will be returning to filmmaking again with a new work called “Close Your Eyes.” It will also feature production from Cristina Zumarraga of Tandem and Nautilis—two highly reputable production companies who co-developed this project together.

They choose not to share any further information and claim that this premier next year will be set for if all goes well. Since 1992, Victor Erice has been working on a range of different tasks. In addition to his movies and video art, he’s also created a collection of paintings and international correspondence with Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami. His latest video installation is based on Jorge Oteiza’s memoir about the origins of this work and how it came to fruition in 2019 at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. Moreover, Jorge Oteiza chronicles how he attempted to create the work from his writings before filming it instead.
