Viewers of ‘Oppenheimer’ find a historical error in the film

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:48:29

The first viewers of Christopher Nolan’s biographical epic “Oppenheimer” noticed a historical error in the picture. The American flag that appears in the film has 50 stars. In fact, there were 48. NME writes about this.

In a scene set in 1945, Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, addresses a crowd waving American flags. They have 50 stars representing 50 states. This version of the flag first appeared in 1959, more than ten years after the scene shown in the film.

Referring to the inaccuracy, one viewer of the tape wrote on Twitter: “Can I be the stuffy guy who complains that a modern flag with 50 stars was used in a scene that takes place in 1945?” In response, another user strongly argued that the error may have been intentional: “I think it was done on purpose, because we see the color scenes from Oppenheimer’s point of view, and he remembers it today, with a modern flag.”

Recall that during the premiere of the film “Oppenheimer” in London, Christopher Nolan said that until the end of the strike in Hollywood he would not work on new films.
