In the Vologda Oblast, for almost 15 years, volunteers continue to save the Church of the Nativity in the village of Krokhino, which was flooded in the middle of the last century during the construction of the Volga-Baltic canal. The volunteers now need funds to build scaffolding around the bell tower.
The money collected earlier was not enough, as the seller refused to sell the wood at a predetermined price.
In August, the volunteers were unable to receive a grant for the conservation work on the bell tower, although they had high expectations and attracted experienced experts to write the application. However, the uniqueness of the history of the bell tower of the Church of the Nativity, which stood on the water, turned into a lighthouse, and now a memorial object, did not impress experts. The final score in the competition was underestimated and it was not possible to obtain much-needed funding.
But the volunteers decided not to reduce the amount of work planned. They hope to be able to raise the necessary funds.
Meanwhile, the Vologda sawmills refused to sell wood at a discount. One of the companies first promised to sell the required amount of wood at 8,000 rubles per cubic meter. And the required amount, 320 thousand, was raised thanks to the contributions of caring people. But in the end, the businessmen refused to sell wood under such conditions.
At the “Belozersky logging industry” near Krokhino, they brought in an amount twice the amount collected – for second-class timber. At the same time, in addition to buying boards, volunteers will have to pay for the work of carpenters, the installation of lightning rods and the delivery of boards along the river.
The funds that are now being collected in Krokhino will be used to install a so-called circle under the lower arch of the bell tower, restore flights of stairs and flights, equip scaffolding and a conservation roof.
