This type of mirrors offers a great advantage: video surveillance. The client has the possibility of seeing what is in front of the peephole from the comfort of their mobile phone and if they wish, they can record everything that happens on the landing and even at their neighbors’ doors. A very attractive idea for the owner of the peephole, but somewhat intrusive for the rest of the neighbors.
Although it may seem like a hypothetical case, it has happened in Spain. A man from a neighborhood community has been sanctioned by the Administration after installing a digital device without the permission of any of his neighbors. The device recognized everything that happened on his landing, violating the privacy of all his neighbors. For this reason, he has been forced to pay a fine of 300 euros, although the penalty for this behavior can reach 20 million euros, according to article 22 of the Personal Data Protection Law.

Thus, the law requires that there be a community agreement. Anyone who wants to install a digital look in a flat in a neighborhood community must notify all the residents of the building and it will be put to a vote. In this way, the neighbors will decide together whether to continue ahead or tear it down. According to the Horizontal Property Law, the tenant who wants to install the digital peephole must obtain the support of 60% of all neighbors to be able to start it.
