Its use is prohibited by an international convention that has been ratified by 123 countries. The United States and Ukraine do not participate in the document.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that this step is another flagrant manifestation of the aggressive anti-Russian course of the United States, aimed at prolonging the conflict in Ukraine as long as possible and fighting to the “last Ukrainian”.
Earlier it was reported that the Pentagon will supply kyiv with 155-mm M483A1 and M864 shells, which have not been produced for a long time.
The shells are fired into the air at a height of about 200 meters, providing a submunition spread up to 100 meters in diameter. At the same time, the submunitions do not have a self-destruct mechanism, which means that if they do not explode when dropped, they become delayed-action mines and can pose a danger to the civilian population for a long time.
