The First Slam Dunk is coming to theaters and as if there wasn’t enough hype, we now know that there is national talent in the production of this film, because through the Konnichiwa festival we are now bringing an interview with Edo “Haruma”, a Mexican-born animator living in Japan with over 12 years of experience in the field.
What can you tell us about the production of The First Slam Dunk?
Why was there such a desire for such a different style of the series?
What was the biggest challenge you and DandeLion Animation Studio had on the project?
The biggest challenge in painting was trying to emulate Master Inoue’s style. I learned a lot from the edits I received from him as well as from Ebara-san (Chief Animator). Truly humiliating. Another big problem was that the Covid crisis happened right in the middle of production. We had to adjust to working from home and having virtual meetings.
