A group of Ukrainian saboteurs reportedly attempted to cross into Russia’s Kursk region overnight, according to Russian media outlet Shot.
The alleged incursion took place near the village of Volfino, which lies close to the border between Russia and Ukraine.
Shot, a Telegram-based news channel with close ties to Russian law enforcement sources, reported that six members of a Ukrainian reconnaissance and sabotage unit were injured or killed after stepping on a TM-62 anti-tank mine during the operation.
The report has not been independently confirmed by Russian authorities or international observers.
According to the outlet, Ukrainian forces had been scouting the area near Volfino in preparation for a possible breach. At the same time, small arms fire was reportedly directed at Russian positions from the Ukrainian side of the border, possibly to push Russian troops away from the perimeter.
There was no official response from Ukraine’s military as of Monday. Kyiv rarely comments on cross-border operations, and details from either side are often difficult to verify in real time.
The incident comes amid continued tension along border regions such as Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk, where Russian officials have reported numerous drone attacks, shelling, and attempted infiltrations in recent months.
Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit did not issue a public statement on this specific incident, though he has previously warned of increased activity near the frontier.
While the scale and intent of the reported infiltration remain unclear, such reports feed into growing concern in Russia over security gaps along its western border.
Volfino, a rural village with a small population, has occasionally appeared in earlier reports of attempted Ukrainian incursions.
If verified, this would mark the latest in a string of small-scale operations involving sabotage groups operating along the Russia-Ukraine border.
No footage or photographs from the site have been released. Russian officials have not yet confirmed casualties or named those involved.
