While all tennis fans admired the progress of 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva and junior tennis star Alina Korneeva, another Russian girl shone in junior tennis.
This time, six Russians made it to the American junior hard court: Yaroslav Demin, Danil Panarin, Anastasia Guryeva, Alisa Oktyabreva, Kristina Sidorova and Ekaterina Perelygina. However, almost all of our talents were eliminated before the quarterfinals.
There was hope for our first seed, Demin, but the curly blonde did not even make it past the semi-finals in doubles (with Mexican Pacheco Méndez). The only one of ours who managed to reach the top was 18-year-old Nastya Guryeva. In a duo with Romanian Mara Gae, she won the US Open.

At the same time, the women’s semi-finals and final were played two hours apart. Those. After an exhausting match, in which the Russians and Romanians naturally took advantage of the game with the Japanese Hayu Kinoshita and Wakana Sonobe, losing in the first set and losing heavily in the second, they managed to recover and took the match in the decisive tiebreaker. They then had to fight almost tirelessly with another Japanese couple, Sara Saito and Nanaka Sato.
Surprisingly, this is not the first time that a similar situation has been repeated in the United States. We all remember how the tennis players were tormented at the Cincinnati tournament, and the juniors had to go through the same. It was decided that the decisive doubles matches would be played in one day. All this is because the eve of the game was often postponed due to bad weather. Frankly, the organizers do not favor young people and do not allow them near the main slopes of New York. The teenagers are forced to huddle in clearings 10 and 15, waiting their turn after a confrontation between their adult colleagues.

By the way, Guryeva never went so far to the United States in her life. At Roland Garros this year she reached the semifinals, where she lost in a bitter fight against the Peruvian Pérez-Alarcón, although many expected the Russian final, where Korneeva was already waiting for her. But on the courts of Flushing Meadows, Anastasia was able to achieve her first success at the beginning of a long career.

In the final match, the Japanese initially looked fresher and more harmonious in their doubles action. The rivals felt comfortable and at ease. Nastya and Mara lost the first set, took the second and achieved the most important break at the end of the match. In the “championship tiebreaker” the girls lost again and it seemed like nothing would help them. But again the turning point, and at the same time the physical and moral components, allowed us to win 10:8. This victory revealed another talented girl for the tennis fans of our country.
