Date: May 20, 2024 Time: 03:53:03

Ubisoft has announced Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a new part of the cult series, whose events will take place in feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. This is the franchise’s first big game since Valhalla, which turns four this year.

The flagship studio Ubisoft Quebec is responsible for the development of “Shadows”, the authors of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and the action game Immortals: Fenyx Rising. We have compiled all the important details about one of the most anticipated games of 2024.

Setting, plot and main characters of Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The events of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take place at the end of the 16th century in feudal Japan, when internecine wars were in full swing in the country. In “Shadows” there will be two main characters: a ninja named Naoe and a samurai Yasuke, a real historical figure and the first black man who arrived on the territory of an eastern state in 1579.

The Shogun series, a recent hit starring Hiroyuki Sanada, takes place around the same time.

Naoe is the daughter of Fujibayashi Nagato, another historical figure from that time. The developers describe her as a very fragile character who prefers to use her cunning and hide in the shadows to quickly and silently confront her enemies.

Stealth will be an important part of “Shadows”: opponents can also be eliminated non-lethally a la Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Yasuke, on the other hand, prefers the traditional samurai approach with fair battles and brute force, the battles themselves relying on blocking and parrying. Through his perspective, players will be able to better understand the game’s setting and immerse themselves in the intricacies of the plot.

It is unknown how both characters are related to the eternal confrontation between Assassins and Templars. Insiders reported that we might also talk about the story of Naoe’s revenge for his family’s order.

Open world: seasons, destructibility, parkour and the brotherhood of assassins

The open world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will undergo major changes. The developers strive to make it as clear as possible so that players can interact with it on different levels.

The Shadows world map will be smaller than in Valhalla and Odyssey, but much more detailed: with many locations, realistic building interiors, and many characters in one place. In battle, players will be able to, among other things, extinguish guards’ torches, cut down bushes and destroy objects into small pieces. The developers put special emphasis on interactivity: players in one way or another will be able to interact with almost all objects found in the game world.

Naoe will be able to use a special grappling hook to cling to the roofs of buildings and use it as a weapon. It is created with physics in mind and can be used freely, and not only in predefined places.

Another important innovation in Shadows is the change of seasons. Players will be able to take advantage of a certain season: for example, in spring they will be able to hide in the bushes, but in winter many places will be left unprotected due to the extreme cold. For the first time in the series, there will also be a Battlefield-style dynamic weather system, which the main characters will be able to take advantage of.

The developers have also reworked the parkour: it will be more realistic and similar to the first parts of Assassin’s Creed. As in previous games, towers will return to Shadows, but they won’t mark all nearby activities. Instead, the authors want players to use them only as fast travel points and to make them convenient buildings for exploring the area with their own eyes, without automatically highlighting points of interest.

Eagle vision will also return, highlighting important objects and characters (enemies are red, allies are blue). But this time they decided to completely abandon drones for the sake of the atmosphere.

Shadows’ cities, castles, farms, and buildings are recreated on a one-to-one scale, like in Unity and Syndicate.

Remember the mechanic of creating your own assassin brotherhood from Brotherhood of Blood? Shadows will have its analogue: players will be able to control a system of scouts who will become the eyes and ears of the heroes when pursuing objectives. Students will differ from each other not only in appearance, but also in skills that will help them when performing special tasks.

And if you miss organizing your own settlement in Valhalla, don’t worry: in Shadows you can completely customize the assassins’ hideout, choosing the layout, decoration and decoration of your own property.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date, platforms and Russian translation

Assassin’s Creed Shadows goes on sale November 15 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Owners of the Gold or Ultimate editions will be able to start playing three days early, on November 12.

Like all recent Ubisoft projects, “Shadows” will be translated into Russian, but only with subtitles. This time there will be no Russian dubbing, but players will be able to enjoy the authentic Japanese dubbing.
