Another soccer tragedy in Germany! After the men at the World Cup, the women failed

In Australia, everything has turned upside down: the two-time world champions go home, and the rookies of the tournament go to the playoffs.

Two-time world champions and Euro 2022 finalists, the German women’s team, for the first time in world championship history, failed to qualify and flew out of the tournament after the group stage. This has never happened since 1991!

In the decisive 3rd round of the 2023 World Cup, something happened that nobody expected: the Germans could not beat the South Korean team and Colombia lost to Morocco. This lineup sent Germany to third place with four points, while Colombia and Morocco occupied the top two lines with six points. This draw brought the Koreans the first and last point of the group.

The Asian team opened the scoring first, already in the 6th minute, Sohyun Chung managed to score. The Germans equalized at the end of the half: Alexandra Popp scored again with a header. 10 of her last 14 goals with her team were scored in this way. And in the second half, the Germans could do almost nothing. A true tragedy for the soccer nation.

In the parallel game of group G, the Moroccan team defeated the leader Colombia, and the tie between the Germans and the Koreans opened the way for the African team to the ⅛ final from second place. Once again, the Moroccan team reached the playoffs in its World Cup debut!

The victory for the Moroccans was brought by Anissa Lamari’s finishing goal after a missed penalty by captain Ghislaine Chebbak. Chebbak is the main star of Moroccan women’s soccer and the daughter of soccer player Larbi Chebbak. In 1976, she led the Moroccan team to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations and later supported the election of her daughter, despite the negative attitude towards women’s soccer in the country. She led Morocco to the World Cup, and now she will play in the playoffs. Unfortunately, Lari missed this moment and passed away in 2020.

The World Cup in Australia has turned everything upside down. Never before have so many favorites taken off so soon: Brazil, Germany, Canada and Italy suddenly dropped out of the tournament. And Jamaica and Morocco are in the playoffs.

For the first time in World Cup history, three African teams have reached the 1/8 final. South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco will represent their continent. In the first games of the playoffs they will face the Netherlands, England and France, respectively.

Well, the German women’s team, just like the men’s team at the 2022 World Cup, goes home very early.

In the 1/8 finals we are waiting for this type of confrontation:

August 5 Switzerland v Spain, 08:00 Japan v Norway, 11:00

6th August Netherlands v South Africa, 05:00 Sweden v USA, 12:00

August 7th England v Nigeria, 10:30 a.m. Australia v Denmark, 1:30 p.m.

August 8 Colombia v Jamaica, 11:00 France v Morocco, 14:00
