France eliminated Brazil in third place in the group! Fiery game day at the 2023 World Cup

A Wendy Renard goal late on eliminated the Brazilians in third place. And the Swedes destroyed the Italian team.
The second round of the group stage of the World Championship between women’s teams is coming to an end. In some groups, everything has already been decided; for example, the national teams of Spain and Japan have confidently won playoff tickets. In the rest, everything will be decided in the last lap.
Brazil now risks not qualifying from the group
Brazil played brilliantly in the first round, beating Panama 4-0, while Herve Renard’s France played Jamaica 0-0. Martha’s team was the favorite for today’s meeting in Brisbane, Australia. However, the French started this game with a completely different attitude.
Some 50,000 people watched the match at Lang Park Stadium, most of whom were supporters of the Brazilian national team.
Lyon striker Eugenie Le Somme opened the scoring together with Kadidiatou Diani already in the 18th minute. This is the 90th goal scored by the French footballer in international matches and the 6th goal in world championships. The 34-year-old footballer became the top scorer for the French team in the history of the tournament.
The Brazilians turned the game around in the second half: in the 58th minute, Debinha brilliantly took the ball in the penalty area and sent it into the net of Pauline Perot-Magnin, making the score 1:1.

The victory of the French was brought by the team captain, Wendy Renard (they are only namesakes of the coach). Her appearance on the field in today’s match was in doubt. Due to an injury sustained in the opening game, she trained in an individual program. But, despite her dire forecasts, she left at the start. The 187 centimeters (!) defender scored with a header from a corner kick on 83′. His goal put the French in first place in the group.
Now the French and the Jamaicans, who today defeated Panama with a minimum score, have 4 points each, the Brazilians have 3. In the third round, France will play the Panamanian team in Sydney, and Brazil will face Jamaica in Melbourne . And the Jamaican team needs a draw to advance from the group.

Italy destroyed by Sweden
In another important game of the day, the Swedish team defeated Italy – 5:0. The Italians showed what a complete game failure is on set pieces: 3 goals out of 5 were scored after corners! The Swedes have decided the issue of reaching the playoffs, in the last round they will find out who they will face in the 1/8 finals, with the Netherlands or the United States.
Scandinavian footballers opened the scoring at the end of the first half. In minute 39, one of the protagonists of the first round scored, Amanda Ilestedt. Five minutes later, a corner kick resulted in a goal thanks to Fridolina Rolfo, and two minutes later, Johanna Kanerid burst beautifully into the penalty area and provided an assist to Stina Blaxtenius.
In the second half, Ylestedt scored a double (also after a corner) and, along with Brazilian Ari Borges, led the scoring run. Point in the game, already in injury time, Rebecca Blomkvist put in (not from the corner).

In the third round, the Swedish team will face Argentina, and Italy, still in second place in the group, will face the South African team. Yesterday, Argentines and Africans tied 2:2.
On the last day of the 2nd day, the Colombian team will compete for the first place in the group with the German team, and the debutants of the World Cup in Morocco will play with South Korea.
