Triumph in the 2018 World Cup with Spain, disappointment in Croatia or some other match? Let’s choose everything together.

Fyodor Kudryashov announced his retirement at the age of 36. The former Russian national team defender played just six months for Fakel after returning from Turkey and decided it was time to hang up his boots. Kudryashov had a rich career: 48 matches for the national team, 237 matches in the RPL, performances in European Cups and in the Turkish championship. There will be something to remember.

November 14, 2021. 2022 World Cup team. Croatia – Russia – 1:0

Unfortunately, there was one match in Kudryashov’s career that I would like to forget, but I couldn’t. In the decisive match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Croatia in Split, the Russian team was defeated and ultimately missed the decisive goal. More precisely, it was Kudryashov’s own goal. Fedor put the ball into his own goal, trying to clear it from the area after a cross from the left wing. As a result, the Russian team lost a direct ticket to the World Cup. We still didn’t know then that our national team would not have been allowed to participate in the 2022 World Cup due to political issues.

“Nobody said anything in the locker room. I sat with my head down, very worried. I felt like I let the team and the country down. Although it cannot be called a mistake, but only a coincidence, it was difficult for me at that time. The guys came up and supported me, and so did the coach,” Kudryashov said about what happened after the match in Croatia.

November 23, 2016. Champions League. “Rostov” – “Bayern” – 3:2

The only Champions League in Kudryashov’s career. That fall, Kurban Berdyev’s “Rostov” greatly surprised everyone in Russia and Europe. Anderlecht and Ajax qualified in the qualification, and in the group stage they showed themselves very well in the quartet with Bayern, Atlético de Madrid and PSV. The Rostovites achieved their only victory in the group over the German champion. Kudryashov spent the entire 90 minutes on the field, covering his left wing well. The missed goals were not his fault, other Rostov defenders made mistakes there. The victory over Bayern in the Champions League is probably Fedor’s most surprising success with the team, along with the victory against Spain in the World Cup at home.

July 1, 2018. World Cup 2018. Russia – Spain – 1:1, 4:3 pen.

At the World Championships in Russia, Kudryashov experienced one of the most emotional moments of his career. If Fedor did not play much in the group stage, in the playoffs he played both games from the first to the last minute. In the round of 16 he entered among the three central defenders and played reliably against a powerful Spanish attacking group. The Russian team with Kudryashov sensationally defeated one of the favorites of the tournament.

“They left everything on the field,” Fedor said after that game. “They still haven’t realized what they’ve done.” Today the whole country was behind us. We had a clear game plan and we followed it throughout the game. We were one team: we endured, we fought and the god of football rewarded us. No penalties were taken. The nerves were against Uruguay, my first game in the World Cup. “I wasn’t that worried about Spain.”

May 12, 2016. RPL. “Dynamo” – “Rostov” – 1:3

In his club career, the most memorable year for Kudryashov was probably 2016. That year, the defender fought with Rostov for the championship and won silver medals, thanks to which he played in the Champions League in the fall. One of the most important moments at the end of the 2015/2016 season for Kurban Berdyev’s team was the away victory over Dynamo. The side destroyer Kudryashov, which covered the left edge, suddenly turned into a sniper. With the score 1: 0 in favor of Dynamo, he assisted Serdar Azmun and at the end of the hour mark he scored the third goal for the Rostov team with a header. Incidentally, this was the first career goal of his at the RPL level.

June 8, 2019. Euro 2020 National Team. Russia – San Marino – 9:0

In 48 matches with the Russian national team, Kudryashov only made two effective actions; You can’t expect much from a defender in this regard. And both in 2019. Fedor gave an assist in the match against Cyprus and three days before he scored his only goal. This happened in the Euro 2020 qualifying home match against San Marino. The outsider’s goal was attacked by the attackers, especially Artyom Dzyuba went crazy and scored a poker, but Kudryashov also found the moment from him. He scored the third goal for the Russian team. Curiously, he scored with his right foot, after a one-two with Anton Miranchuk.

“There were mixed feelings,” Kudryashov admitted. – This is my first goal with the national team. Then I felt very tired, I didn’t have much strength to rejoice. I remember running towards Anton Miranchuk, who made a brilliant pass. I just have to not mess it up. “I dedicated this goal to my family.”
