Here’s a rundown of the top hockey events for August 25, 2024.
Radulov’s goal and two assists helped Lokomotiv defeat Barys and win the Blinov Cup
Lokomotiv and Barys played a match at the Blinov Cup pre-season tournament in Omsk. The Yaroslavl team won the match with a score of 5:2.
Barys’ goals were scored by Vsevolod Logvin and Connor Smith, who gave them a double numerical advantage.
Alexander Radulov scored his first goal for Lokomotiv. The experienced forward received a superb pass from Daniil But from behind the byline and effectively beat the goalkeeper, sending the puck under the crossbar with an awkward hand. Radulov also had two assists. Daniil But, Maxim Berezkin, Alexander Polunin and Pavel Kraskovsky also scored for the Yaroslavl side.
Thanks to this victory, Lokomotiv equalled Traktor in points scored in the tournament. However, thanks to the victory in the personal match, it was the team from Yaroslavl that became the winner of the Blinov Cup.

SKA recovered from 0-2 in the match against Ak Bars and won on penalties
Today, August 25, local hockey teams SKA and Kazan Ak met at the Nikolai Puchkov tournament at the St. Petersburg Ice Palace. The main half of the game ended with a score of 3:3, with SKA hockey players winning on penalties. “Championship” conducted an online text broadcast of the match.
Ak Bars took a comfortable lead in the first half. Semyon Terekhov and Dmitry Yashkin scored equally. The second half was in the hands of the home team. SKA scored twice, with Valentin Zykov scoring twice.
In the middle of the third period, Vasily Glotov put the army team ahead, but Yegor Korshkov managed to equalize the score. In the penalty shootout, the representatives of SKA were more accurate. The newcomer to the army club Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a try in his characteristic style.
Before the start of the season, SKA still has matches against Severstal (27 August) and the Russian youth team (29 August). Tomorrow, on 26 August, Ak Bars has a match against the Russian youth team.
Spartak scored a convincing victory over CSKA in a penalty shootout in a friendly match
A friendly match between CSKA and Spartak took place at the CSKA Arena in Moscow. Spartak hockey players won the match 4:3 in a penalty shootout.
Vladislav Kamenev, Prokhor Poltapov and Konstantin Okulov scored for CSKA. Pavel Poryadin, Alexander Pashin and Alexander Belyaev scored for the red-and-white team. Note that by the middle of the third period Spartak was losing 1:3, but managed to send the game to overtime. Overtime did not reveal the winner, and in the penalty shootout Spartak’s hockey players were stronger. The team’s goal was defended by goalkeepers Ivan Prosvetov and Dmitry Nikolaev.
The teams will play their next matches at the traditional Moscow Major Cup pre-season tournament on August 29.
“Sibir” equalized the score in the last minutes and defeated “Avangard” in extra time
In Omsk, at the pre-season tournament of the Blinov Cup at the G-Drive Arena, a match between the local Avangard and Siberia took place. The Novosibirsk team won in extra time with a score of 2:1.
Stanislav Galiev scored a goal for Avangard in the middle of the second half, assisted by Damir Sharipzyanov and Alexey Makeev. “Siberia” managed to save the match a minute and a half before the end of the third period, when Georgy Belousov tied the score and sent the match to overtime. Taylor Beck scored the winning goal in overtime. The team’s goal was defended by goalkeepers Mikhail Berdin, Ilya Proskuryakov and Anton Krasotkin. It should be noted that during the match there were several skirmishes and mutual eliminations.
Thus, according to the results of the Blinov Cup, Avangard Omsk took the third place in the tournament standings. “Sibir” is in fourth place. The winner of the Blinov Cup was Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, beating Traktor thanks to their victory in the head-to-head confrontation.
Avangard CEO advocates raising the salary cap in the KHL
Avangard CEO Anton Kuryanov said the issue of the KHL salary cap requires discussion.
— Are you in favor of raising the salary cap? — We have the opinion of our club: everything around us is growing, except for the salary cap in the KHL. For our part, of course, we would like to review and regulate this issue in some way. You can do it like in the NHL: increase it by a certain percentage or issue some contracts. I think that in the four years that have passed since the introduction of the salary cap, some changes can be made.
—Will you take the initiative to create some sort of long-term injury list in the KHL to get those hockey players off the salary cap? — There are rules that have already been adopted. I understand that we will not change anything. The rules must be adopted on the ground. But the situation with Tkachev is an incident that could lead to some changes in the rules, — says Championship correspondent Lev Lukin, referring to Kuryanov’s words.
