At the same time, the Russian himself had the opportunity to overtake Alcaraz and become second, if Daniil himself became the US Open champion, and the Spaniard stumbled no later than in the fourth round. As a result, Medvedev lost in the final and Carlos advanced two more rounds. And now the Russian is 1,255 points behind Alcaraz and 4,515 behind Djokovic.
There were other changes in the top 10. The 2022 finalist, Casper Ruud, having acted unsuccessfully in the new draw, immediately fell from fifth to ninth place. Once these points are deducted, the gap between the Russian and Djokovic will be reduced to 2,355 points, which Daniil is quite capable of winning in the remaining two months of the 2023 season.
