Was the fastest goal in football history scored in Nizhny Novgorod? Today, May 15, Jimik received Mashuk-KMV in the match on matchday 14 of the silver group of the Second League. And the beginning of the meeting presented an event that may be worthy of entering the Guinness Book of Records!
“Mashuk-KMV” started the match from the center of the field. Striker Alexander Butenko did not touch the ball, but midfielder Nikolai Ivanov shot. A 24-year-old player from the Pyatigorsk club carefully threw the ball into the air and… hit the crossbar of Khimik’s goal! Local goalkeeper Nikita Shulkin made a slight positional error and missed the goal. And Ivanov was quick to celebrate the goal from the Mashuk-KMV bench. Just a couple of seconds passed since the start of the match. Perhaps the Pyatigorsk club scored the fastest goal in the history of football!

Interestingly, Khimik tied the score in the next attack – Nikita Abramushkin scored. And before the end of the first half, the teams still exchanged goals. And who can argue that the Russian Second League is the best?
What about the record? Officially, the fastest goal in football history was scored in 1998. Uruguayan Ricardo Oliveira entered the Guinness Book of Records after scoring 2.8 seconds into the match between Rio Negro Capital and Soriano Interior! Like Ivanov, he shot from the center of the field under the crossbar.

Yes, the goals were scored faster, but Oliveira distinguished himself in a match between professional teams. The rest were registered in amateur or youth competitions. For example, in February 2024, Croydon’s Ryan Hall scored 2.31 seconds into the game. But representatives of the Guinness Book of Records refused to take into account the record of a player from a club from the tenth division of England.
“The goal was excellent. “This makes us even more sorry that we do not record achievements outside of professional football, where we can rely on statistics provided by governing bodies and companies that analyze sporting performance,” the BBC said in a statement.
The legend of Rostov broke the world record in 2011. But there was not enough money to include it in the Book.
Oliveira’s record was broken in 2011 by Russian MITOS defender Mikhail Osinov. In the second division match, in which the Novocherkassk Club hosted Olimpia Gelendzhik, he shot from the center of the field. And he scored 2.56 seconds after the opening whistle!
Furthermore, Osinov did it for a good reason. Mikhail played for the veteran team in the city championship. MITOS coach Mikhail Kupriyanov did not like this, as the defender could get injured. But before the match against Olimpia, Osinov was still playing secretly from the coach. Kupriyanov found out and was offended. But Osinov found a way out of the situation: “I asked him: ‘How can I get away with it?’ – ‘Score a quick goal so that I can be calm about the result.’ After Osinov scored, he ran towards Kupriyanov and told him: “Vladimirych, I’m sorry, I couldn’t do it faster.”
Why didn’t the Russian enter the Guinness Book of Records? “MITOS” planned for the achievement to be recorded. But when applying to the Book, it turned out that a monetary commission had to be paid. MYTHS, like Osinov, had no funds for it.
If Ivanov’s goal turns out to be faster than Oliveira’s, will Mashuk-KMV find the money to enter the Book of Records?
