Avangard is so far the only team to have won both home games.
On March 3, three games were held in the KHL playoffs: one in the West and two in the East. Let’s briefly summarize all the matches.
During the middle of the match, Lada perfectly contained Avangard’s stellar attack, preventing the opponent from entering dangerous areas of the ice, and also took advantage of his opportunities: Nikita Popugaev’s puck was the result of a terrible positional error by Avangard’s defenders. However, from the third half onwards, Avangard stepped on the accelerator, began to create chances and two goals in one minute was the logical result. In overtime, Lada ran out of gas: when Ivan Nikolishin scored the winning goal, the Omsk team had a 10:0 advantage in shots. The series moves to Togliatti with a score of 2-0 in favor of the “hawks”.

“Amur” drank a lot of blood from “Metallurg” in the first match of the series, and in the second they achieved a historic away victory in the Gagarin Cup. Despite Metallurg’s absolute superiority in shooting, not all of them were dangerous and often monotonous. The Khabarovsk team created less, but more efficiently: two goals came from a penny, where both victories and bonuses were buried, and they also beat Metallurg with two goals in 15 seconds. The teams leave for Khabarovsk with the score tied.

Unlike the first match, where SKA had a clear but rather ineffective territorial advantage, in the second match the shooting activity of SKA and Torpedo was on par for a long time. The Nizhny Novgorod team counterattacked more often and had some good chances that they couldn’t take advantage of, but at the end of the second half they were already leading 2:0 after goals from Kovalenko and Goncharuk. SKA scored once, twice, but the second goal went into the goal after the match ended.
The hosts attacked in the third period, but only two minutes before the end were able to score in a 6-on-4 position, where Vorobyov almost literally buried the puck. In extra time, SKA continued to play in three lines, but the hosts had more strength: they attacked most of the extra time, switching to shots from any position and, as a result, Vasily Glotov shot through Ivan Kulbakov’s goal, who made more than 60 saves, tying the series score.
