A fragment of an interview with Adelina Sotnikova, which was not included in the original edition, was published on the Tatarka FM YouTube channel on July 5. In this video, the figure skater shared her opinion on the situation with the Kamila Valieva doping case and unexpectedly recalled her story from the 2014 Olympics; allegedly, doping was also later found in her sample and she even had to be prosecuted for it. But the media and the general public knew completely different information.
So what really happened and what did Sotnikova talk about in her interview?

“Remembering 2014, when after a while they said that they found me doping and that I had to make a trial, and all this had to be… But then they acquitted me, because they opened the second sample, and everything was fine. . And here is another story. She was terrified, she was depressed, and then the girl who spoke took the gold, and she just needs to go out again and take the gold…”
What was known to the public?
At the end of 2016, the Italian edition of Gazzetta dello Sport published information that three Olympic figure skating champions appear at the same time in the report of an independent WADA commission led by Richard McLaren. They were Ksenia Stolbova, Tatyana Volosozhar and Adeline Sotnikova. At the same time, there were no specific names in the report itself, all the athletes were encrypted with codes.
It was alleged that Sotnikova is on the list of athletes whose doping tests were allegedly rigged. Due to the fact that there was no officially confirmed data, the FFKKR even issued a statement that they would take legal action after receiving official information from the media.
The data from the McLaren report was subsequently transferred to the IOC and sports federations, which have already launched specific investigations. At the end of 2017, the proceedings against Sotnikova were terminated due to insufficient evidence of the athlete’s anti-doping rule violation being provided.

It turns out that there was no autopsy of the second sample and a positive doping test? The general director of the FFKKR, Alexander Kogan, and the figure skating coach, Elena Buyanova, called such news nonsense.
RUSADA also reacted to Sotnikova’s statement: according to the RIA Novosti portal, the agency knows nothing about the fact that doping was once found in the figure skater.
From the outside, it seems that Sotnikova was simply trying to support Valieva and remembered her story, but she chose the completely wrong words. The scandal broke out of nowhere.
