Last weekend at UFC on ESPN 51, a duel took place between Da’Mon Blackshear and Jose Johnson. At first glance, an unremarkable fight finally entered the history of the promotion. Blackshear became the third fighter of the organization, who managed to win with the rarest trick – a tornado. Of course, this earned Da’Mon a $50,000 top performance bonus. And immediately after the fight, the 29-year-old said that he was ready to return to the Octagon this coming weekend.

On the eve it was known that the former champion of the organization Cody Garbrandt withdrew from the card of the tournament number UFC 292, which will take place in Boston on the night of August 20, due to injury. He would face Brazilian Mario Bautista. Promotion management consulted and decided to use Blackshear this week as well.
Thus, in a very short time, De’Mon jumped from the preliminaries of a regular tournament to the main card of a numbered event. Also, this is an entry in the historical record of the undefeated Swedish-Chechen wrestler Khamzat Chimaev.

Before Hamzat, the record holder was Chas Skelly. The American has never snatched the stars from the sky, but in 2014 he surprised everyone. Very close to beating Khamzat was a girl from Mexico, Lupita Godinez. In October 2021, she stopped Silvana Gómez Juárez in the first round with a painful grab. On October 16, exactly one week later, Godines entered another fight, but she did not break the record. Lupita lost to Luana Carolina.
So now Blackshear will try to improve Chimaev’s record. However, his opponent is far from a scapegoat. Bautista is on a string of four wins, the last three being early. Mario’s overall record in the UFC is 6-2.
Blackshear is most likely well aware of the risks. He’s just now been able to get on the winning streak, and here’s a big chance he’s going to break it. At the same time, De’Mon will receive an impressive paycheck, the respect of the organization and the public, and the opportunity to play in a major tournament. Apparently, these factors and his desire to duplicate his “stocks” outweigh the risk of losing to him. We can only praise you for courage and determination. In any case, Blackshere will already go down in history as the first fighter on the UFC men’s roster to fight two fights in one week. At best, he will be the one whose record no one will repeat for the foreseeable future.
Another important point is that Blackshear will fight both fights in the bantamweight division, that is, at his own weight. Chimaev fought in the middleweight and welterweight divisions, Godines fought in the minimal and flyweight divisions. So De’Mon is even cooler in this regard.
