The sixth stage of the Diamond League ended in Lausanne (Switzerland). The tournament turned out, perhaps, not as bright and dramatic as the previous ones. However, it was not exempt from records and the best results of the season. We talk about the most striking events of the stage.

On the last day of June 2023 in Switzerland, the athletes set four new competition records. Femke Bol won the 400m hurdles again. The athlete won her third Diamond League event this season: 52.76 seconds. The second place was occupied by the Finnish Viivi Lehikoinen (54.67) and the third by the Italian Ayomide Folorunso (55.12).
Another competition record now belongs to Jakob Ingebrigtsen. The Norwegian ran the 1500m in 3:28.72 and won his fourth Diamond League gold medal this season. Ethiopian Lameha Girma (3:29.51) took silver with a new personal and national record, while Josh Kerr (3:29.64) took bronze with his best result of the season.
The women also showed beauty with a competition record in the 3000 m steeplechase. Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya finished first with a personal best time of the season of 9:05.98 minutes. Second in the race was Ethiopian Sembo Alemayehu (9:06.82), while Ugandan Perut Chemutai (9:11.91) completed the top 3 with a personal best result of the season.
The real heat was organized by the men in the 5000 meter race. Berihu Aregawi and Joshua Cheptegei treated the public to a beautiful fight in the last meters of the distance, whose winner was the Ethiopian. Aregawi ran in 12:40.45 minutes, setting a race record, a personal record and showing the best result of the season in the world! Cheptegei gave up 1.16 seconds to the winner, although he finished with the best personal result of the season.
The fight for third place was also brilliant: Hagos Gebrhivet, who closed out the top three, also achieved this feat, running in 12:49.80 and 0.01 seconds ahead of Telahun compatriot Haile Bekele.

The jumpers were also interesting. In pole vault, American Cathy Moon gave the best result of the season in the world. The athlete took a height of 4.82 m. Katie tried to jump to 4.90 m, but all three attempts were unsuccessful. Moon’s rivals fell far behind. Wilma Murtaugh, who took second place, conquered only 4.77 m, and Eliza McCartney, who closed the top 3, 4.71.
The tournament was also dramatic for the high jumpers. At the last moment, the Australian Nikola Olislagers snatched the victory from two Ukrainians. She was the only one who took 2.02 m, setting not only a personal record, but also a continental record! In addition, Olislagers showed the best result of the season in the world. Nicola tried to jump to 2.05m, but missed.
Second place was taken by Irina Gerashchenko, who jumped 2.00 m and repeated her personal best. One of the main stars, Yaroslav the Mighty, was left with only the bronze, with 1.97 m. Both Ukrainians tried to conquer 2.02 along with the Australian, but all attempts were unsuccessful.
Yaroslava, by the way, interrupted her impressive streak of 14 tournament wins. The last time against Lausanne, she lost almost a year ago: in August 2022, she Mighty lost to Safina Sadullayeva.
“The jump of 2.02 meters was amazing,” said the winner of the tournament in Lausanne. – The second attempt at 2.05m I will review it over and over again to learn from my mistakes.
