A week and a half ago, Daniil Medvedev, the winner of the US Open 2021, failed to regain the US Open title. In the semifinals, Medvedev defeated Carlos Alcaraz, but in the final he could not withstand the tension of the fight with Novak Djokovic. Such a difficult schedule led to the fact that Daniil withdrew from two tournaments at once: from the UTS-6 exhibition in Frankfurt (Germany) and from the official ATP-250 event in Zhuhai (China).
“The last two weeks have been very hard on me and my body, probably the hardest I’ve had on tour. It’s really disappointing because I wanted to play in front of you. I like this event and its format, so I wish good luck to all the participants and organizers,” Medvedev explained his withdrawal from UTS, as quoted by the contest organizers.

“I’m sorry to tell you this, but I won’t be participating in the Zhuhai tournament this year. I apologize to my Chinese fans, it is very difficult for me to talk about this. However, the recent US Open was physically and mentally exhausting. I really wanted to come to your tournament, I heard a lot of good things about it and the city. I hope to see you next year”, and these are Daniil’s words, spoken during the communication with the fans.
But who is helping Medvedev regain his strength? Of course, family! After the US Open, Daniil, his wife Daria and his daughter Alisa, now 11 months old, did not immediately leave New York. On September 12, Medvedev and his wife celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary.

And after that, Daniil and his family flew to Turkey to regain strength during the holidays. When flying across the ocean, the so-called jet lag inevitably occurs: it seems that in the next photo Alice is half asleep!

* * * But soon the break will end and Medvedev will return to the tournaments. First on his agenda is the Beijing 500, which will take place in the week beginning September 25. Djokovic will not be there. He has already announced his withdrawal not only from this tournament, but also from the Shanghai Masters, which will be held in the first half of October. But you can and must fight against Alcaraz. Included for positions in the ATP ranking.
Now Medvedev has 7280 points and Alcaraz has 8535. Djokovic still seems unreachable: he has 11,795 points. But it is Novak who needs to defend the most points, who had a great end to the 2022 season.
