On Sunday, August 20, the 5th round of the RPL ended with three games. The main event was the “derby of the two capitals” in Moscow – the confrontation between “Spartak” and “Zenith”. We talk about the most interesting of this and other matches of the day in our traditional review.

For the first time in a long time, Spartak faced the game with Zenit, if not as a favourite, then at least with no less chance of winning. It had been a while since the rojiblancos were ahead of the blue and whites in the RPL table before a face-to-face match. If Guillermo Abascal’s team had beaten Sergei Semak’s team, then for many it would have become the main contender for gold medals.
However, the football championship in the match “Spartak” – “Zenith” was shown not by the hosts, but by the guests. Pretty unexpected, considering how the Petersburgers spent the start of the season. In the first half, Semak’s team, with the exception of the game’s debut, successfully got out of the rival pressure and forced the rojiblancos to make mistakes with their pressure. Blue-white-blue created several scoring chances, and Wendel scored with a rebound from Jikia. Surprisingly, the Brazilian, who did not spend the “preseason” with Zenit, became the star of this meeting.
In the second half, when Semak’s team was already playing more to keep the score, Wendel scored a brace. The midfielder converted a brilliant through ball from Claudinho. The Brazilians continue to shine at Zenit, despite the departure of Malcolm.
The intrigue at the end was maintained with a penalty against Zenit. Barrios in his penalty area in a duel with Sobolev touched the ball with his hand, which he had not even seen. Only Sobolev and realized the 11 meters. But in injury time, Zenit’s trio of substitutes Sutormin, Erokhin and Cassierra built up the Saint Petersburg’s third goal, playing a one-out combination. The champion beat Spartak in the table by one point.

After four rounds, Vadim Evseev’s team remained the only one in the RPL without points. But on Sunday, Voronezh waited for Fakel’s first victory. We can say that the hosts tortured her in the match with Pari NN as they almost lost the majority win.
There was little football in the meeting between the teams of Evseev and Sergey Yuran, but there was a lot of passion. The ‘Torch’, as always on its difficult pitch, imposed a fight on the rival in every part of the field, threw the ball into the outside area a lot and struck at the first opportunity. However, Nizhny Novgorod held on for 74 minutes, and Alexandrov’s red card prevented them from drawing an equalizer from Voronezh. Stupid retirement that a young defender won. He usually received the first warning for the fact that, being outside the field, he threw the ball from the reserve “Pari NN”. The second – for a sharp foul.
With ten men, Pari NN could not resist: Fakel squeezed the opponent thanks to replacement forwards Markov and Dolgov. The first scored a typical header goal. The second made a one-on-one start in stoppage time. At the same time, Voronezh could fail with the score 1:0. It would be a great shame!

Romashchenko debuted with a win
Miroslav Romashchenko has a perfect debut as Akhmat’s head coach! In the first match, under the leadership of former assistant Stanislav Cherchesov (they worked together in Grozny), the team brought Orenburg home. After such a defeat in the Orenburg club, they can think about the future of Jiri Yaroshik, until the Czech goes to the RPL.
