Spartak will enter the match against CSKA under the guidance of head coach Vladimir Slishkovich. It is not a unique case, but it is very rare that in the most popular derby in the capital one of the teams is led by a “temporary”. In the entire history of Russian football there are few cases of this type. It is curious that the acting head coach each time was the one who led Spartak. Vladimir Fedotov stops managing CSKA

In September 2003, Vladimir Fedotov was appointed interim head coach of Spartak following the departure of Andrei Chernyshov, who was fired seven rounds before the end of the championship. At that time, the red and whites were in 11th place and were just eight points clear of the relegation zone. The former CSKA player and son-in-law of the legendary former Spartak coach Konstantin Beskov had to correct the situation.
The derby against CSKA was held on matchday 28. Before this, Spartak under Fedotov defeated Torpedo (1:0) and Krylya Sovetov (2:0), drew with Uralan (1:1) and lost only to Zenit Saint Petersburg (1-2). Furthermore, Danish side Esbjerg won the UEFA Cup on aggregate (2-0 home and 1-1 away).
It is curious that the future red-and-white coach Nevio Scala flew to the Spartak derby with CSKA. He then came to Luzhniki simply as a guest of Spartak. The match itself, in terms of quality of football and entertainment, was, to put it mildly, far from ideal. The military team led the championship with a four-point advantage over Zenit and, in general, a goalless draw suited them. Between them, the rivals created only one scoring opportunity. Goalkeepers Wojciech Kowalewski and Igor Akinfeev (yes, he was in the army goal then!) had few opportunities to show themselves.

“The match turned out to be very difficult,” admitted Fedotov in the post-match press conference. – There were no scoring chances, except for Pavlyuchenko, who was forced to score. I’m glad we played to zero. This is important for us, because recently Spartak had completely indecent numbers in the “goals conceded” column. Now we have strength in defense, but unfortunately we have not been successful in attack. We have Danishevsky’s speed qualities, but in football not everything goes as planned. I am glad that the players fought and showed enviable dedication. However, this should always be the case. It is clear that we have a team, but, of course, we must strengthen it.”
The end of the season turned out to be bleak for Spartak and Fedotov. The team lost twice at the end of the championship and also dropped out of the Russian Cup. Only in the UEFA Cup did he manage to beat another rival: Dinamo Bucharest. In December, the rojiblancos were led by Skala.

At the end of April 2006, Fedotov was again appointed interim head coach of Spartak. This happened after the resignation of Alexander Starkov. At that time, after six rounds of the RPL, the red and whites only had one win, four draws and one loss, and were in tenth place.
Under Fedotov’s leadership, Spartak players quickly grasped his signature game. They defeated Zenit (4-1) in St. Petersburg, defeated Torpedo (2-0) and qualified for the Russian Cup final. In the two-legged semi-final against Saturno we tied at home 1-1 and won away 3-1. Five days before the cup final there was another goalless draw in the derby against Dynamo in the championship. However, that CSKA turned out to be too strong for Spartak. Valery Gazzaev’s team was leading the RPL and defending the cup trophy he had won the previous year. True, the red and white after the derby were dissatisfied with the refereeing of Valentin Ivanov, who, according to the Spartak team, “gave them penalties.” The standard was CSKA’s strong point. In the 43rd minute, Jo opened the scoring with a free kick. The intrigue lasted almost until the end. Only in the 90th minute Vagner Love scored the second goal for the military team, running towards the Spartak goal and sending the ball into Wojciech Kowalewski’s goal. And in added time, Jo scored a double from Dudu’s pass.
After his first defeat at the head of Spartak, Fedotov admitted:
“We lost against our best team with great players, a team that looks like a well-tuned piano. It is impossible to fight such an opponent with two fewer players. Football itself turned out to be modern, look at the speeds. My only complaint about mine is the ending. Although you understand: when you work for about three weeks, it is difficult to change the situation. For two and a half years the team played completely different football. It is difficult to adapt to a passing game. “Everyone saw how many long passes we had and most of them went to the opponent.”
By “two players”, Fedotov meant Spartak midfielder Mozart, who was sent off in the 88th minute, and… referee Ivanov. Despite the failure, immediately after the cup final, Fedotov was approved as head coach of the red and whites and led the team until June 2007.
Valery Karpin defeated CSKA and was replaced

In April 2011, a completely unique incident occurred that will hardly be repeated in our football. Valery Karpin, who had coached Spartak since 2009, resigned after a five-match winless streak (four losses, one draw), but while the club was looking for a new coach, he continued to lead the team in a “temporary” role. ”. Since Karpin also held the position of general director of Spartak, he was involved in all processes.
In the next match against Karpin, the red and white defeated Krasnodar in the quarterfinals of the Russian Cup 2-1. The team’s players showed their support for the coach by wearing t-shirts with his image. And in the Championship, Spartak left the last place four days later, defeating their teammates from Nalchik 1:0. Then, on matchday 7, the red and whites’ rival in the derby was the league leader, CSKA.

Karpin made it clear that not even a victory would change his decision to resign as coach. But everything turned out differently. “Spartak” inflicted on CSKA the first defeat in the championship, after which the owner of the Moscow club, Leonid Fedun, no longer had doubts about leaving Karpin at the head of the team.
The derby was not very spectacular and Spartak took advantage of almost their only scoring opportunity. In the 78th minute, forward Ari decided the episode with two touches after a run by Aiden McGeady down the wing. After the derby, Karpin answered questions from journalists about his future.
“Is the search for a new head coach continuing? Continue. After the victory over CSKA, Fedun proposed to suspend this process? No. I am still the CEO. As for the game, there are always glitches. We won and it was good. I liked the concentration and dedication of the players… The entire team worked as they should, as agreed. I thank the players for accomplishing what they set out to do, for their dedication and desire. Many thanks also to the fans.”
Karpin coached Spartak until the end of the 2011/2012 season.
