In early May, basketball fans in our country were concerned about Alexei Shved, who was beaten while leaving a Moscow restaurant. Fortunately, everything worked out for Alexey then. Less than three months later, the news agencies spread the news that another of the architects of the Russian team’s victories, Nikita Shabalkin, was in a hospital bed. After a brutal attack by unknown persons, he required urgent medical attention.
The crime was committed in the town of Golikovo, near Moscow. Unknown persons approached Shabalkin and, after a short exchange of comments, began to beat him with their hands and feet. They beat Nikita so ruthlessly that he lost consciousness for a while. Passersby immediately called an ambulance and the police. Shortly after the attackers fled, the emergency services were already on the scene. At the same time, Shabalkin could not move independently – a stretcher was used to transport him. Nikita was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a closed head injury. When Shabalkin came to his senses, he was able to tell that there were three attackers.

Law enforcement sources say work is currently underway to search for suspects. As for the condition of the beaten Shabalkin, a more accurate and complete picture of the injuries he received can be established based on the results of an in-depth medical examination that Nikita is currently undergoing in the hospital.
Obviously, the beating of Shabalkin has nothing to do with his sporting past. He ended his career as an active basketball player ten years ago. Some sources suggest that the attack may be related to his current professional activities: the former basketball player is reported to have recently been involved in the construction business. But this remains only conjecture: the truth must now be established by investigation. It cannot be ruled out that Nikita could have become a victim of ordinary street hooligans who did not care with whom to conflict. The most important thing in this situation is that this wild case does not have serious consequences for Shabalkin’s health. It remains to wish Nikita a speedy recovery and that the perpetrators answer for his unjustified cruelty within the framework of the law.
