On the night of December 3, the next mixed martial arts tournament UFC Fight Night 233 took place in Austin (USA). The main event of the evening was the fight between the best lightweights Beneil Dariush and Arman Tsarukyan.
Dariush was ranked fourth in the lightweight division entering the fight and was coming off a knockout loss to Charles Oliveira. Beneil was previously on an eight-fight winning streak and was seriously aiming for a shot at the title, but the loss to the former champion weakened his position considerably. The fight with Tsarukyan was an opportunity for the Assyrian to express himself again and let everyone know that he was too early to write him off.
In turn, for Arman this was the first real opportunity to get closer to the coveted revenge with Islam Makhachev. Tsarukyan scored confident victories in his last two fights. He first eliminated Damir Ismagulov, winning by unanimous decision, and then knocked out Brazilian Joaquim Silva. Armand was in eighth place in the rankings and a possible victory over Beneil Dariush could be an excellent step towards a title or at least a contender fight. Admittedly, it is worth noting that the events around Tsarukyan on the eve of the tournament were alarming. A few days before the event, he managed to get into trouble with Bobby Green, who fought on the same card as him, so doubts arose as to whether Armand was really focused on the upcoming fight.

From the first seconds, Dariush began to work with kicks from the left foot position and putting pressure on Tsarukyan. The Akhalkalaki resident reacted calmly, did not panic and sought distance. Dariush blocked the side kicks, Arman abruptly switched to the clinch and landed a knee strike, which went tangent, but then came a terrible right side kick, which sent Beneil into a deep knockout.
