Russian gymnasts Arina and Ksenia Yunyashins joined the Turkish national team.
This was stated by the president of the Federation of Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics of the Penza Region, Valery Starkin, whose region was represented by sister gymnasts.
“The mother of the Yunyashins sisters decided to move to Turkey last fall to obtain permanent residence and gathered all the documents. Ksenia performed here in an individual program, Arina in group exercises. But they did not appear in any list of the national teams. Now in Turkey, as far as I know, they hold group exercises, ”Starkin was quoted as saying by TASS.
According to the source, Yunyashins will start representing the new country at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Youth Championships, which begins on July 7 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Russia is not participating in the tournament due to an indefinite suspension. Earlier, the IOC recommended that all international federations allow Russian athletes to compete in neutral status.
