American Corey Sandhagen spoke about the duel with Russian Umar Nurmagomedov. In particular, he stated that the winner of this fight will face UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
“The UFC wanted to put together a Vera-Cejudo fight, and I beat Vera pretty convincingly. This fight could not have been a Candidates fight. I thought the promotion might want to do something with Henry. But, since he teams up with Vera, it means our fight with Umar will definitely be for the No. 1 contender’s title,” the American added in an interview with MMA Hour.
Recall that Sandhagen ranks fourth in the UFC bantamweight rankings. He has 16 wins and 4 losses, including from Russian Petr Yan. In the last fight, the American defeated the Ecuadorian Marlon Vera.
As for Nurmagomedov, the young fighter had 4 fights in UFC 4 and had 4 wins. In all, during his MMA career, Umar won 16 fights and did not suffer a single defeat.
We add that his showdown with Sandhagen will take place on August 5 at the UFC on ESPN 50 tournament.
