Was a Russian figure skater’s program for Rammstein cancelled? First scandal of the season!

“Megasport” and television viewers never saw Peter Gumennik’s performance with Sonne.
In July it became known that Pyotr Gumennik was preparing a short program for the composition Rammstein – Sonne. The skater presented the trailer for the production on social media with choreographer Nikolai Moroshkin. Many called this program a breakthrough: it is rare to skate to such heavy rock, but Peter pulls it off unusually brilliantly.
The premiere of the production took place at Tamara Moskvina’s master class in Igora, Leningrad Region. Then everything came together for Peter: a quad lutz, a quad loop and a fire track.
Tamara Nikolaevna noted that she has nothing against this music, since it is necessary to look for different musical styles and try yourself in different things.
A few days before the skating test at Megasport, a video appeared in Peter’s fan group where he practices the steps of the new shorts with a suit. There are no signs of problems.
But for the warm-up on September 16, Gumennik came out in the suit from last year’s short program and skated the same. In the mixed zone he tried to explain the substitution, but he still did not clarify the reasons.
“I wanted to skate Rammstein, but for reasons beyond my control, to my regret and that of the entire team, the old program was abandoned. So the circumstances have developed, I can’t say anything more.
We didn’t want to change the program, but we had to. I found out about this the day before I went to rent and they still couldn’t come up with anything better, so we skated last year’s one. Hopefully they will allow me to ride in Rammstein,” Gumennik said.

The journalists tried to get Peter to talk and go deeper, hinting, among other things, at the political situation: the sports officials might have thought that setting the stage to the music of a hateful German band was not the best decision at that time.
But the skater did not separate. And if he hopes that his “Sun” (as the name of the composition is translated from German) will still receive the green light, we will believe in it too. After all, all musical styles are necessary and important.
