During the visit, Volodin met with President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President of the National People’s Assembly of Algeria Brahim Bougali. The parties discussed the development of interparliamentary relations between the two countries, as well as issues of economic and humanitarian cooperation. According to the Russian speaker, it is necessary to ensure the implementation of the Declaration on Deep Strategic Partnership between the two countries, signed by the Heads of State.
After the visit, the State Duma speaker said that interparliamentary relations between the two countries “are not yet at the level we would like to dream of.” Unlike economic ties: over the past year, the volume of trade between the countries increased 2.2 times and by the end of 2023 it exceeded $3.7 billion.
However, the legislators of both countries decided to create a high-level commission that will work on developing relations in the parliamentary sphere, the president noted. According to him, this is important for the inhabitants of both states.
“These are friendly people, our strategic partners, so our relations must reach a new qualitative level,” the State Duma speaker said.
As it became known during the visit, a delegation headed by the Speaker of the Algerian Parliament will visit Russia in the near future.
