More than 2.8 thousand people were injured as a result of the detonation of pagers in Lebanon. These devices are used by Hezbollah members as a closed system. The Minister of Information of the Republic, Ziyad Makari, said that the detonation of pagers in several areas of Lebanon was an act of aggression by Israel.
“The massive weakening of communications facilities used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon can be considered a unique operation,” former Israeli police officer and security expert Sergei Migdal told KP.RU. – Although similar methods were previously practiced by Israeli intelligence services.

But this was a targeted action. This is a planned, large-scale attack that affected a large number of people. Not long ago, Hezbollah boasted that it had managed to create its own communications system, independent of other circuits. It included antennas, radios and other equipment. Including pagers, which almost no one in the world uses anymore. But they are very convenient for sending general messages, for example, commands about meetings or performing some actions.

After all, most of the group’s members lead a normal life most of the time: people work and do household chores. And only at certain times are they ordered to mobilize. They always carry pagers and they are always on. Therefore, Hezbollah decided to buy these rare weapons, hoping that their signals would be difficult to intercept.
According to some reports, a batch of the devices was purchased in China through an Iranian intermediary. And either there, or, most likely, on the delivery route, it fell into the “right hands”, and several grams of explosive were placed in each of the pagers. It was a complex and very painstaking job that required very precise organization and the involvement of more than a dozen specialists. On Tuesday, the signal sent activated the batteries of the devices, followed by detonation.
