In Udmurtia, a 27-year-old man was sentenced for setting fire to his ex-wife’s house with the people in it, including his own children.
According to the press service of the Investigative Directorate of Udmurtia, a previously convicted 27-year-old man was visiting his ex-wife’s house on May 9, 2023. With them were two of his children: a two-year-old daughter and a son of four, and guests: a couple with a two-month-old child.
During the party a conflict arose between the former spouses. The woman went to the store, and her ex-husband, out of revenge and jealousy, set the paper on fire and placed it on the sofa in the hallway next to the exit of the house. After that, she hid in the bushes near the house and began to observe what was happening.
As a result of the fire, the man’s two children died. The couple and their son managed to get out of the house, but suffered burns of varying degrees. The house and property were completely destroyed by fire. The amount of material damage caused amounted to 417,500 rubles, notes the Investigative Committee.
The court found the man guilty of several charges: murder of young children in a socially dangerous manner, attempted murder and destruction of other people’s property by arson (Articles 105 and 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
He was sentenced to 24 years in a maximum security colony.
