Aid of up to 150 euros to adopt a pet: steps and requirements

Date: May 19, 2024 Time: 06:15:52

The Xunta has authorized the call for financial aid to encourage the adoption of pets in Galician shelters. There is financial support of up to 150 euros that will be used to finance the first expenses of the pets as long as the adoption has been carried out in one of the 39 authorized shelters.

The Galician president, Alfonso Rueda, announced this decision in the appearance this Monday after the Xunta Council, after receiving a thousand requests. This amount is intended to cover all requests, although Rueda has explained that the funds could be expanded depending on demand. The Xunta recognizes trying to promote the adoption and care of pets with these practices.

The aid will be distributed depending on the animal, the adoption of dogs will be 150 euros, while in the case of cats it will be 125 euros. This grant will be used to finance first veterinary expenses such as vaccinations or microchipping.

This measure seeks to promote the responsible adoption of pets, helping people with the financial burden and guaranteeing the necessary medical care for animals.

In the last session of the Xunta Council, the members were informed about this aid by the Department of Environment and Climate Change. These financial funds are scheduled to be published before the summer, probably in June, with a total budget of 125,000 euros for this year. The Galician government intends to support those citizens who choose to adopt animals over purchasing them.

The beneficiaries will have to agree not to give the animal to another person throughout its life, except in justified circumstances such as illness, sudden disability or economic vulnerability of the adopter. This measure aims to ensure the well-being and safety of the pet.
