I felt an urgent need for large texts, and besides, I had told very little about myself personally before that: my wardrobe, how and what I buy, why I choose certain things. There was a need to share more, because for me it’s not just things, but a research topic. When I wear something, I think a lot about how I feel about it, why it is so, what this thing gives me. It was interesting for me to speculate about this in the public field, so I launched the newsletter.
I get amazing feedback, which is super inspiring to me. People often write to me, “Alina, I like the newsletter more than any other content format you do.” I understand why. The newsletter is something new, fresh. That’s where it’s great. When a letter arrives in your mailbox, a personal touch is created, as if the author of the text sent it to you personally.
I have subscribers from all over the world: from all the states of America, from Australia, from Africa. It surprises and inspires me. Now Skirts & notes has no paid content, you can only make a donation. But in the foreseeable future I plan to add it.
Probably, the audience is hungry for content in which the personality and opinion of the author are present. We all subscribe to letters from Western publishers: The Cereal Aigle by Leandra Medin, Back Row by Amy Odell and Opulent Tips by Rachel Tashjian. Russian-language emails are only gaining momentum.
