“During trial, the defendant completely denied his guilt, but irrefutable evidence presented by the state’s attorney convinced the jury otherwise,” the department said.
The investigation established that in April 2013, the accused raped a 28-year-old girl in his car parked near the Chernaya River. Fearing exposure, he strangled the victim, leaving her body in a ditch near the road.
The second victim was a 35-year-old woman whom he kidnapped in October of the same year and took her tied up in a GAZelle from St. Petersburg to the Lomonosovsky district of the Leningrad region. She was subsequently strangled as well.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant represented an exceptional danger to society, as he had previously been convicted of similar crimes. The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in a special regime correctional colony.
