According to the memo, Biden authorizes the administration “to provide up to $345 million in defense funding and services through the Pentagon, and for education and training in aid of Taiwan.”
According to the ABC television channel, the military aid package is expected to include man-portable air defense systems, firearms, missiles, reconnaissance and surveillance equipment.
The journalists noted that the Biden administration for the first time decided to send a large military aid package to the island from its defense reserves.
Recall that earlier US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a meeting in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that the US authorities have no plans to conflict with China and do not support the independence of Taiwan.
