“It must be admitted that the assessment of those who were guided only by military logic has changed and they were largely deceived,” the deputy said in an interview with the Deutschlandfunk radio station.
He pointed out that the fighting continues more and more and that the civilian population suffers. According to the parliamentarian, just talking about an increasing number of offensive weapons with an increasing radius of action “cannot solve the problem.”
Stegner also spoke out against the supply of cluster munitions and Taurus missiles.
“To say that the supplies do not carry escalation risks is a wrong assessment. Therefore, we will do the right thing, being prudent and restrained,” the deputy is convinced.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius spoke out against the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. According to the official, this is not a “top priority” right now.
